Navigating SolarEdge P-Series Power Optimizer Replacements: Cross-Compatibility Guide

If a single SolarEdge P-Series power optimizer fails in an older residential system, finding the exact same model, such as a P300 or P320, can be challenging since many early models have been discontinued. Fortunately, SolarEdge designed P-Series power optimizers with extensive cross-compatibility, meaning you can swap alternative P-Series models directly into the same solar panel string without replacing the entire array.

Understanding P-Series Inter-Compatibility

When replacing a failed optimizer within an existing string, the replacement model must match or exceed the power rating of the PV module connected to it.

1. Standard Standard-Voltage Optimizers (P300 – P395 & P401)

The most common residential legacy optimizers—including the P300, P320, P340, P350, P370, P375, and P395—are fully inter-compatible with each other.

  • Replacement Strategy: If your system originally used a P300 or P320, you can safely drop in a P340, P350, P370, P375, P395, or P401 into the exact same string.
  • Key Requirement: Always verify that the replacement optimizer’s maximum input voltage (Voc) and power handling meet or exceed the specs of your PV panel.

2. High-Voltage & Special-Voltage Models (P400, P404, P405, P485, P505)

Certain solar panels require specialty high-voltage or frame-mounted optimizers, which follow specific compatibility groupings:

  • P400 Optimizers: Inter-compatible with P3xx series as well as P401 and P500 models.
  • P404, P405, P485, & P505: These units feature specialized input voltage or current parameters. P404 and P505 units are compatible with each other in many configurations, but ensure you match the specific panel Voc requirements.
